Tsunami
She said
You are nothing like me,
and yet, like me, you are nothing.
Then the wave hit.

She planted solid feet,
hoping to withstand it.
I sought to swim with the flow,
fearing the rip would drag me out to sea
where I would drown.

It made no difference, of course,
we both got swept away,
and now we cling to the driftwood
of our former lives
and chart a dangerous course together.
