PEOPLE POEMS - TOMMY
I wrote a lot of people poems about my fellow prisoners. These poems were special to me at the time.  I would like to ask a favor of my friends here in the writing room, do these poems have any meaning to those of you who do not know the personalities I'm writing about. While the poem may be special to me because I knew the person it may not have much meaning to a disinterested third-party.  I will share one of these poems within this posting about a young man named Tommy.

Then there was Tommy.  Tommy was a strange person.  Admittedly gay but trying to stay in the closet.  He was a self professed legal expert but the evidence did not support his claims.  Tommy did not live in the real world.  I never knew how old Tommy was but he had to be in his early thirties.  He has been in prison most of his life.  When I met Tommy I was very unstable and lonesome to the point of pain.  Tommy seemed to be a refreshing change and I fell in love!!  I did another "Gray old man" poem.

LITTLE ONE

Things are seldom what they seem,

As you move within your dream.

A gentle face and a gentle touch,

Challenging life, for you want so much.

You set your goals so very high,

And work so hard to bring them by.

Yet deep within, where no one goes,

There is a lost little boy that no one knows.

A fun little kid that wants to play,

And say those things that kids will say.

I hope this kid will kick and shout,

I hope someday this kid gets out.

Let this kid be a part of you,

Let him show you a side that's new.

Find the balance of what is real,

As with the trials of life you deal.

And as you do what you must do,

Remember the gray old man who loves you.

we know the personalities of the individuals you write about, because in your words, your writings...even the prefaced paragraph gives us images and emotions and helps the reader "know" these people who otherwise would be faceless...but now immortalized and painted in poetic words. cool poem! keep writing, thanks for sharing.
