Ahead they spot a smoke pall. part six
The Escamants well rested
After four dark nights had passed
Though their peaceful time was numbered
It would not much longer last

In the morning as the sun grew
They would leave this calming place
Back out onto the Moytscape
With its dangers fresh to face

The next leg of their journey
Would be treacherous and hard
The landscape pocked and riven
From battles deeply scarred

They bade their comrades fair well
Then set out from the post
Ahead a lengthy journey
That would lead them to the coast

Grantor took the lead again
As the others fell in line
He motioned Morte to take the rear
His normal lone assign

The first days passed unhindered
The mileage travelled well
At night they camped in open ground
Sentries posted attack to repel

Young Harret though was troubled
He could sense they weren’t alone
There were eyes that scanned their progress
Behind every bush and stone

They had known this path was treacherous
Before leaving that bright morn
He took comfort that the outriders
Flanking the caravan to warn

Ahead they spot a smoke pall
Then the scouts were sent to see
As they topped the ridge before them
The attackers were seen to flee

What remained, a scene of carnage
Wounded comrades all around
The remains of Thorans advance party
Was clearly what they’d found

Quickly tending to the wounded
Making sure each now were safe
The guards on the perimeter
The horizon if so to strafe

They had taken a heavy beating
Many dead lay now to see
Mangled bodies silent laying
Strewn around in the debris
