Nessa Monroe

Somewhere, underneath,

This scarred up shell of me—

Beneath the noise inside my head,

And the razor lines I’ve bled…

Below, where I’m not loud;

Beyond the darkness of this shroud;

You’ll see the light inside that shines.

You’ll see what’s worthy that is mine.

I’ll matter just below.

I’ll be worth enough to know.

And you won’t want to leave

When you see the inner me.

There’s more than just this pain,

And I’m human all the same.

And I’m sorry it’s too much;

And this is all I’ve let you touch.

But somewhere way deep down—

If you care to stick around—

There’s the girl I used to be,

And I swear that she’s worthy.
